The Division of Infectious Diseases is looking for a

Postdoctoral position in Host-Pathogen Interactions

Core duties and responsibilities:

  • A postdoctoral position is immediately available for investigating host immune-pathogen interactions, with an initial focus on fungi that will be possibly extended to other pathogens relevant to our clinical cohort(s). The project involves investigation of host immunity in response to these pathogens, using state-of-the-art immuno-profiling technologies, functional validation and in vitro mechanistic studies.
  • Working on patient samples, immune signatures (biomarkers) and mechanisms provides an exciting clinical relevance to this project.
  • Contribution to research within the field of host pathogen interaction, Research Group Prof. Subhra K. Biswas
  • Contribution to Research Funding Applications
  • Conduct lectures up to 6 hours per semester within the Medicine Diploma program and supervision of (diploma) students
  • Contribution to organizational and administrative tasks


Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Completed master or diploma in natural sciences or health sciences and completed PHD (preferrably in immunology, molecular biology or infectious biology)
  • Essential qualification/expertise: Animal and human cell culture (e.g. isolation of immune cells from tissues or blood)
  • Basic molecular, immune or immuno-metabolic techniques (e.g. qPCR, ELISA, multi-parametric flow cytometry, immunoblots)
  • Basic statistical analysis
  • Experience in performing scientific projects in immunology, molecular biology, infectious biology
  • Ability to work independently on his/her project to generate, analyze and present reproducible scientific results in the form of publications and at meetings
  • english language (C1 level)


The ideal candidate has the following profile:

  • Expertise in (or bioinformatic analysis of) any high-dimensional single cell technologies such as single cell RNA- or ATAC-Seq, high-dimensional cytometry, spatial transcriptomics or cell imaging
  • Expertise in knocking-out gene or protein functions
  • Expertise in particular immune subsets (e.g. neutrophils, T-cells)
  • Ability to work independently on his/her project and ability to work in a team

Classification in employment group B1 according to the collective agreement for university employees.


We offer a gross annual salary of EUR 66.532,20 on a full-time basis in accordance with the collective agreement. Previous periods of service can lead to a higher basic salary.
