Supplementary exam in the form of an additional exam at the university
Graduates of secondary schools that do not require Latin, individuals who have passed the university entrance qualification exam and degree program graduates must take an additional exam in Latin according to § 4 par. 1 lit. a of the current version of the University Entrance Qualification Decree (UBVO 1998), Austrian Federal Law Gazette (BGBl.) II no. 258/2018, before they complete the first phase of the Medicine and Dentistry degree programs.
According to § 4 par. 2 of the UBVO, the requirement to take the supplementary exam in Latin does not apply if applicants have successfully completed a Latin class of at least ten hours a week in secondary school.
If the supplementary exam in Latin has not been taken by the deadline, the first phase of the Medicine and Dentistry degree programs may not be completed. This means that students must furnish proof of the supplementary exam in Latin before they can take the last exam of the first phase of the Medicine and Dentistry programs.
According to § 6 par. 2 of the UBVO, the supplementary exam in Latin may be completed as an additional exam at a university. It is a university exam in accordance with the university legislation governing exams (especially the statutes on provisions regulating university studies).
The content of the supplementary exam in Latin is based on the Latin curriculum from the upper level of the academic secondary schools.
