Admission to a degree program requires the general university entrance qualification and knowledge of German or—if the degree program is offered in English—of English that is sufficient for succeeding in the course of study.
Certificates that are equivalent to the Austrian school-leaving or vocational school-leaving certificates according to international agreements count as proof of the general university entrance qualification.
Proof of the general university entrance qualification can also be furnished by a foreign qualification if there is no substantial difference between it and the general university entrance qualification according to § 64 1 line 1 of the Universities Act (e.g., an Austrian school-leaving certificate). If schooling according to point 2 lasts only eleven years or educational content is missing according to point 3, the rectorate may prescribe up to four additional exams that must be taken before admission.

Admission to a diploma program at the Medical University of Graz requires a secondary school-leaving certificate as proof of completion of secondary schooling andgeneral university entrance qualification. The grades in the exam subjects must also be included.
Note that not all school-leaving certificates from other countries are equivalent to Austrian school-leaving certificates.
In this case, it is necessary to take additional exams that can be completed as part of a university preparation program. These exams are in biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics as well as German at the C1 level.

Documents from the contracting states of the convention abolishing the requirement of legalization for foreign public documents (Hague Apostille Convention) only require certification in the form of an apostille issued by the respective national authorities.
In this context, it should be pointed out that only the foreign ministry or other qualified government offices of the respective state, not its representative in Austria (embassy), are authorized to certify documents with an apostille.
According to article 4 of the Apostille Convention, the apostille should be affixed to the original document.

Full diplomatic certification is required for documents from all states with which there is no bilateral certification convention and that are also not contracting states of the Hague Apostille Convention. In this mode of certification, documents must also receive additional certification (authentication) from an Austrian governmental authority after they have gone through the national certification process in the state of their origin (the last station of which must be the foreign ministry of the respective state). This authentication can be conducted by the Austrian representative authority in the respective state (embassy, consulate, honorary consulate). Certification by the representative authority of the respective state in Austria is not possible.
Full diplomatic certification by the Austrian representative authority in the respective state is valid in these countries.
