Tenure track professorships: A big boost for science

The best (junior) researchers from around the world who hold their own in the selection procedure have a unique opportunity as tenure track professors at Med Uni Graz: they can establish a working group in their field of research in the state-of-the-art, point-of-care environment of Medical Science City Graz and share their special expertise with the international research community over the course of a long-term scientific career. The position is initially limited to six years, during which the goals of the qualification agreement must be met. If the candidate demonstrates outstanding and remarkable achievements, an evaluation of the qualification agreement may be possible sooner. When the defined goals have been achieved, an unlimited term contract as an associate professor is concluded, which entails belonging to the professorial curia as well as taking on responsibility for one's own field of research. Tenure Track Professor for Psychotherapy with focus on Psychodynamics

We are looking for an excellent researcher with great potential to develop an internationally recognized research agenda in the field of Psychotherapy. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research and teaching in the field of psychotherapy with a focus on Psychodynamics. The new position will complement the research activities of the Division of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy. The initial appointment is limited to six years. After the conclusion of a qualification agreement, the career advancement goal is to transfer to a tenured position as an associate professor (tenure track professor pursuant to § 99 para. 5 and 6 of the Universities Act). If the candidate demonstrates outstanding and remarkable achievements, the qualification agreement may be fulfilled more quickly.

Core duties and responsibilities:

Establishing the interuniversity master program Psychotherapy in Graz with focus on Psychodynamics
Conducting research in the field of Psychotherapy with a focus on Psychodynamics
Establishing and leading an interdisciplinary research group
Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising diploma, master and PhD students and mentoring and promoting young researchers
Acquiring third-party funding and taking the lead in such research projects
Writing and publishing high-quality scientific papers in reputable journals
Giving lectures and seminars, actively contributing to conferences, hosting visitors and organizing conferences
Supporting scientific and public outreach in the research area (public lectures, media, etc.)
Actively participating in the organization and management of the Division of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy

Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

Master's or Diploma degree in Psychology, Medicine, or Social Pedagogy, along with a Doctorate in a related field
Completed training in an accredited psychotherapy school
Proven track record of high-quality publications in the field of Psychotherapy and peer-reviewed research grants or other third-party funding as a lead or principal investigator
Experience in leading a research group
Previous experience in teaching and/or (co)supervising pre- and postgraduate students (depending on the applicant’s career stage) with in the field of Psychotherapy
Postdoctoral research fellowship abroad or at a different institution than where the doctorate was completed of at least 6 months
High level of proficiency in both written and spoken German and English (proficiency level C1)

Proven experience in the development of curricula for Master's programmes
Willingness to cooperate, open-mindedness and ability to work in a team
Communication and social skills
Outstanding level of motivation
Systematic and analytical mindset, excellent organizational skills
Responsible work habits, resilience and problem-solving skills

Classification in employment group A2 according to the collective agreement for university employees.
