Doktoratsstudium Pflegewissenschaft

Doctoral Program in Nursing Science

The independent research conducted by students in the Doctoral Program in Nursing Science assists in the development of nursing science and prepares them to be young researchers in the field of nursing science.

As a result of the comprehensive, in-depth training, students in this program are capable of formulating, independently planning and carrying out their own research projects on current topics in nursing science. Their findings help to expand the body of knowledge in this discipline.

Students are able to critically analyze, evaluate and advance current scientific theories and new concepts in nursing science. They become young nursing practitioners who contribute to the development of nursing science in both university and non-university settings.

The doctoral program is offered in cooperation with Charité Berlin and Maastricht University.

Dissertation

The dissertation serves as proof that a student has acquired the ability to independently solve important problems in current scientific research. It must be an independent original work prepared and written by the student without any assistance; the student must confirm the latter in a preamble to the dissertation. The student must also confirm that he/she has complied with international good scientific practice guidelines during the work on the dissertation and on any publications based on this work. The dissertation must be written in English and include abstracts in both English and German. The prerequisite for acceptance of the dissertation is four publications or accepted articles in which the research findings of the dissertation are presented. The publications must appear in international peer-reviewed journals with the student as the main author.
