Focus: The eukaryotic gene-expression is mostly regulated on a transcriptional and mRNA-translation level. mRNA-translation is mostly regulated during initiation, where eukaryotic initiation factors (eIFs) act as a leading part. The meaning of translation-initiation and its regulation via eIFs within pathological processes like oncogenesis or degenerative diseases represent a big area of interest for us, especially regarding new methods in diagnostics and potential therapeutic approaches. Among other things we investigate eIFS in different tumor entities like brain tumors or pediatric tumors as well as neurodegenerative diseases.
Network: Our multidisciplinary research approaches are made possible thanks to different cooperations with the Medical University of Graz and even more cooperations with national and international partners from the University and industrial area.
